Man guilty of shooting 15-year-old boy was on the run
The small Barcelona community of Sant Hiplit de Voltregà, which has a population of just over 3,400, awoke early this morning to a significant deployment of Mossos d'Esquadra exceptional. The special intervention teams (GEI), which only act when looking for an armed and dangerous person, have ended up occupying the small streets of the town. They were looking after Daniel M., a man in his 40s, who was suspected of shooting a 15-year-old boy twice in the early morning hours and fatally killing him. The suspect was taken into custody by the Mossos around 1:00 p.m. without incident and without the use of force.
At five in the morning, the peace of one of the smallest towns in Catalonia was disturbed. A 15-year-old boy was involved in an argument at that time with a number of other people for reasons that the Catalan police are currently looking into. According to the first piece of information, Daniel M. pulled a gun in this situation and shot the child twice before he was hit and eventually deceased. Although the police have not confirmed it, there is a different version that circulates in the community that the young man was hit on the head after falling backward and then was shot by the suspect who was actually holding a blank weapon.
The young person was discovered in the street still breathing, and despite the Emergency Medical System (SEM) doctors' best efforts, he eventually passed away. The Mossos then turned on a sizable device to track down the alleged gun-wielding offender who fled into a forested area near the town where the crime was committed. The Catalan police have activated the helicopter, drones, and public order units in addition to the GEI, which is the equivalent of the GEO of the National Police, to secure the area and locate the suspect as soon as possible.
Police sources claim that the man has a history of multiple convictions. According to the same sources, at least one is for drug trafficking and domestic violence. According to eyewitness reports, the suspect fled on foot and made his way to a wooded area. In an effort to persuade the alleged perpetrator to turn himself in without using force, Catalan police negotiators have also been called into action and have been in contact with the family.
Finally, after one o'clock in the afternoon, a witness reported that the suspect was near the factory where he works, according to police sources. The Mossos arrested him there, without the man carrying any weapon and without him having offered any kind of resistance.
The Catalan police are now investigating the motives behind the fight that ended with the death of a 15-year-old boy. The agents have assigned a team of psychologists the task to support the family of the murdered young man.
